Machine No.1 was born out of a desire to capture and share the beauty and mystery of a moving cloud of flies.
The machine was fitted at the end of its arm with a container of vinegar and rotting fruit stew. The idea was that fruit flies would flock to the stuff and would become so fond of it that when the arm turned one hundred and eighty degrees, they would meekly move after it like a cloud. But unfortunately it doesn't work that way.
The flies turned out to have a different character than in my fantasy. A single benevolent individual participated in my fantasy, but I never got to see the cloud I longed for.
I intend to continue this project in the future with the help of a bigger budget, suitable space and capable help in the form of biologists or similar nature freaks. The desire to see such a beautiful cloud of wonderful creatures move around is still very much alive.
